Cracked Nuts at Yowah!
Toompine the pub without a Town
Situated betwen Quilpie and Yowah, near the Duck Creek Opal fossicking site you will find Toompine. This used to be serviced by the Cobb & Co.

You can grab a meal or just stop for a coldie on your way through. But if you are planning to stay awhile then accomodation is available at Toompine. You can also grab a shower which you will need after a few days fossicking at the nearby site of
Duck Creek.
Toompine pub is a great place to stop if you have children. There is plenty for them to do. Ours played with the all the pets that roam freely around. Jonesy - the friendly bar lady was really great. She let them feed the pig and even gave our daughter a present.
We loved the Toompine so much we visited 3 times even though we only spent a couple of nights out at Duck Creek. There was an emergency visit though for my hubby who had to go in for a carton of coldies!
Whilst Toompine Pub is a great tourist stop it also services the locals, who are station hands/ owners and also the boys from the opal fields. Hans, Don and the others.

Everyone out this way was friendly and helpful. Our family highly reccomends that you stop awhile at Toompine. It gets a 5 star rating from
our Kids.
We did a little fossicking at Duck Creek, but unfortunately no really good pieces of opal did we find. There were the odd specks of colour and some great picture stone. I was blessed enough to find a 'Tecktite or otherwise known as an Australite. Which is either a meteor or a rock created by a meteor impacting the earth. Geologists still have not reached a consensus about that. There are quite a few mullock heaps to sift through and lots of shafts so keep a close eye on the kids and dogs. There is a hose about 5 km away from the shacks which is there for the tourists. We stood on the tyre and had a bush shower. The birds think its there for them though. Duck Creek is popular with 'rock hounds' and don't foret your fossicking licence. Camping is free.  A big hello to Jonesy - sorry it took so long to get this page going.
