New emphasis for Quorn

2 Chronicles 7:14 -  If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways (repent); then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

Christians who confess Christ with their lips on Sunday but deny Him with their lifestyle the rest of the week - well frankly that is what an unbelieving world simply finds unbelievable.

You may have noticed a change of scenery at the Church on the Corner recently. No we have not changed our name just our emphasis. We still believe Christ is coming soon but we feel God has a special message for the times we are living in. And this message is primarily focused first at the Church itself, for judgment begins in the ‘House of the Lord” and God’s House in this western world certainly needs a wake-up call.

You see the Church in Australia by and large has failed this country. We are guilty of compromise and hypocrisy. But you probably are already aware of this. We compromise our faith by saying we are following Jesus but yet we just end up mimicking the rest of the world. We become hypocrites when we preach the truth on Sunday but live the lie on Monday. We fail you when we do this and we fail God.

Lets face it if we really believe that Jesus is the only true answer to mankind’s problems then surely we would be compassionate and passionate enough to demonstrate this in a loving but uncompromising way to the rest of our fellow Australians. Why don’t we do this? That is the question we are tackling in our church. What is it about our Western Christian lifestyle and philosophy that prevents us from living and proclaiming the Gospel as found in God’s book the Bible.

2 Chron 7:14 was originally aimed at Israel at a time preceding Jesus. Israel was God’s chosen nation. God did amazing things for Israel and made some incredible promises to them. All they had to do was follow God’s way for them and He would bless their nation and their land.. But they didn’t do it. When God said don’t worship idols - they did. When God said don’t practice witchcraft or astrology - they did it. When God said don’t commit adultery or fornication - they did it. Not only did they do it they convinced themselves that it was Ok to do so. They blended their commands from God with the ways of the world and became ‘first class hypocrites’. Why did Israel do it? Maybe they just couldn’t stand ‘standing out in the crowd’. Maybe they didn’t love and respect God enough to be faithful or maybe they were just too scared of what the others may think if they dared to be different.

We believe that what God was calling the “Church” of Israel to do, Jesus likewise is calling His church to do today. We need to repent and  stop compromising, stop living in fear of w
hat others may think and start loving others enough to live out the Gospel in our community. When Jesus returns He will ask us to give an account of just what we did with the gifts He gave us. Will we have to confess that we hid them in our Churches or will we be able to say that we shared the Great News of Christ’s forgiveness?

It is time for the Church to repent! Repent means to stop sinning and start following God’s will. It is time for the Church to humble itself which means that we have to say sorry and seek forgiveness. It is time for the Church to stop wasting time and start praying for our neighbours our country and for God’s will to be done on earth. I don’t know about you but I certainly would rather face God’s present judgement on my spiritual condition while there is yet time to repent, rather than face up to the truth when it is too late to do anything about it.

So that is why we as a ‘fellowship of Christian believers’ are seeking God about this scripture. We want God to examine our hearts whilst there is still time to get it right and start loving this community just as Jesus loves it. There can be no revival if there is no repentance and the world will never see the need to repent if we fail to do so.

If this message has touched your heart and you too want to know what God wants to do in His church in Quorn please come join us in prayer as we ‘seek His face’.
