Song - Only a boy named David
by Arthur Arnott |
Only a boy named David,
Only a little sling,
Only a boy named David
and he could shout and sing
Only a boy named David
And five litle stones he took
And one little stone went in the sling
And the sling went round and round
And round and round and round and round
Then one little stone went in the air TWACK!!!!!
And the Giant came tumbling down.
Well I'd rather be a little thing growing up
than a big thing coming down
I'd rather be a captain with a smile
than a colonel with a frown
I'd rather have Jesus as my Lord
than any thing on earth
I'd rather be a little thing growing up
than a big thing coming down. |

Lesson One - Who is David and why God picks him?
The remarkable thing about David is that he was the least of his house hold. The youngest son who was given the non-noble task of tending sheep. Normally nations pick Kings by either their strength and pollitical savvy or by their bloodlines. Now God was interested in Davids lineage but he could have picked any of the many brothers to be king. God, however does not choose and the world chooses. God does not pick according to the ways of the world. He does not look for big muscles but a big heart. God does not always pick who we think is first in line either. God is looking for a heart that will Love Him and have faith in Him.
David was young not quite the little child we often picture him as but certainly he was not yet of "AGE". Small in his family he may have been but David had a big heart for God. David could believe that through God he could do anything. Even tackle a giant.
Lesson idea. Talk about how kids pick sports teams at school. How does it feel to be the last one picked? What criteria do we use to pick out our team.? Is it always fair or right to pick people by this method. We judge people often by outward appearances but God does not. Remind them that David was the last of his family but first with God.
